Cindy Sherman is a contemporary artist whose goal is to tackle gender norms and to portray the stereotypes put upon women through self-portraits by using her own persona and body in her art. Sherman addresses social issues such as the judgement on women and their identities. The photographs, and film Sherman creates has a meaning behind it that speaks out towards gender normality. She is famous for her seminal series Untitled Film Stills (1977–1980) which were black and white photos whichshowcase Cindy Sherman, herself, as a model in many costumes and poses, and they are interpretations of female stereotypes found in film, television, and advertising. These were known as the gems of feminist photography. She is known for portraits that seems provocative from far but once you take a closer look, you can see a deeper meaning. Mrs. Claus, 1990, Fortune Teller, 1993, and Mask 1992 are some of her known art among many of her other art.
